Biography
Photographer: Ralph W. Robertson. c. 1887.
Born in Worcester, where he later studied at Government School of Design. Entered Studio of J. H. Foley 1866, and R.A. Schools the following year. First exhibited at R.A. in 1868 and the following year won Gold medal. After Foley's death in 1874, Brock completed many of his works, e.g. Statue of Earl Canning for Calcutta. Works include: Memorial to Lord Leighton, St. Paul's Cathedral, 1900; Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace, 1901-1911; equestrian statue of the Black Prince, Leeds, 1902; portrait statues include: Sir J. E. Millais, 1904 (in the grounds of Tate Gallery); Sir Henry Irving, 1910 (North side of National Portrait Gallery). Designed portrait head of Queen Victoria for the coinage in 1893.
